A native of Charleston, Jim Shultz had spent over 30 years doing body work on automobiles. One day in 2000, he noticed an old drive shaft and fashioned a dachshund from it. After selling it, he soon began making several sculptures. Before long, Jim was invited to exhibit one of his sculptures- a palmetto tree- in the state fair, where he won the blue ribbon.

Jim has since won the Traveling Museum Show Award with a sculpture of a C-17 in the American Museum in South Carolina. He has created a replica of the Confederate Submarine H. L. Hunley for Senator Glenn McConnell, a palm tree for South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford, and sculpted for the esteemed Habsburgs of Austria. Jim has also been featured in the New York Times, Post & Courier, and all three major networks in the Charleston area. Jim is currently the resident sculptor for the Noisette in Charleston, SC.

The Palmetto Tree seen on the left was made from scrap metal collected from the Grace Memorial Bridge, one of the two bridges that made up the Cooper River Bridge, and is so named Gracie. The tree was commissioned by the city of Charleston and is currently on display at the American La France Museum on International Blvd. in North Charleston.
